Following an extremely challenging 18 months battling COVID, resources within the Franciscan Alliance were stretched to their limits. When the CEO & President of Franciscan Health Dyer/Hammond/Munster needed a comprehensive presentation with a very quick turnaround, staff was caught up short. Although it was outside my responsibilities as the Patient Advocate, I was happy to step up to fill the gap. The resulting PowerPoint presents Franciscan in a polished, professional light and covers a breadth of organizational updates and data reports for the three hospitals.
After the success of the President's Report, I decided to take on a new challenge that had been negatively impacting my job on a daily basis. The existing staff education module about Complaints, Grievances and Incidents had sufficient, relevant information, but employee engagement was very low due to the existing PowerPoint's lackluster appearance. I took matters into my own hands and redesigned the presentation to give it a fresher, more dynamic feel. It was a success! Staff response was immediate and enthusiastic. Nurse managers began showing the presentation on regular rotation at staff meetings to invite discussion and remind staff on how to improve patient communications and minimize conflict.
